My List of Places-to-go for Pancakes, Waffles, and Crepes

Hello again! I was wondering about what to review while looking at some of the food pictures I had taken, then I suddenly realized that I had quite many pictures of waffles, pancakes, and crepes. The ‘aha’ moment came right away as I thought reviewing about them sounded great!

If you ask me which one I love the most, I believe I will end up saying I love all of them :p . Although in some restaurants/cafes, you often find some menu for which you might choose between waffle, pancake, or crepe cake; but for me, each of them have their own specialties. The textures as well as the taste are different, causing some people to have their own preference between those 3.

For you the savoury-dish lover who might think that talking about this trio will not be interesting at all, you are totally wrong. All of them can be served both as savoury and sweet dish. When served as savoury one, you can get the balanced flavor from the sweet base (either pancake, waffle, or crepe) and the savoury topping, which definitely will make you want to have more and more spoons of it. On the other hand, when served as sweet one, which you usually have, you will get double happiness from the sweet base and sweet topping!

Ok, enough talking about those things and let’s get into my list of most favorite places to enjoy waffles, pancakes, and crepes! I will not assign any rank to the places so the list will be based on alphabetical order.

A&W Waffle with Additional Tower of Ice Cream (IDR 24.5k + 3.5k)

If I have to give rating based on price to taste comparison, A&W waffle might be the winner! It is the best choice if you are looking for something affordable, yet still taste sooo amazing! The combination of freshly-baked waffle with cold ice cream will never go wrong! Actually you will only get 1 ice cream tower when you purchase this waffle. However, I’ll always add another tower to satisfy my craving. For the ice cream, you might choose between strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, and vanilla-chocolate twist.

Oreo Cheese Mille Crepes (IDR 400k/whole cake)

So far, for me Lareia’s Oreo Cheese and Banana Nutella Mille Crepes are still the best mille crepe in Indonesia. The Oreo Cheese one has marvelously brought out the perfection from the blend of cream cheese, oreo biscuit, and vanilla cheese buttersnow. On the other hand, through the combination of sweet hazelnut cream, refreshing banana, and all-time favorite Nutella spread; the Banana Nutella one can certainly become the most adorable mille crepes for any chocolate and banana lover.

For the ones loving French crepes, Le Café Gourmand’s crepes are definitely you! The thin crepes coming with abundantly given topping will surely make you fall in love with this dish. For peanut butter lover, you can go with Mogador; while for chocolate lover, Montebello is all yours. Another special thing here is that you will get so many options for the flavor of the ice cream you want to put on the top of your crepes, even the unique one like Crème Brulee or Salted Caramel.

Hey you the savoury lover, don't be disappointed yet because I have something to satisfy your appetite. Putting sweet waffle and maple syrup together with crispy and tasty fried chicken, this dish has successfully represented an ideal and unique combination of sweet and savoury taste.

 Nutella Banana Crepes (IDR 55k)

   Without further explanation from me, I guess you guys have been drooling looking at the picture. As seen, the crepe is quite thick, but you don't need to worry as the texture is so moist. This crepe will then be rolled to shape like a cone, which will later on be filled with super generous amount of various toppings. Once again, the banana and chocolate lover is satisfied. However, if previously you only can get several small cuts of Banana, this time you will get several big cuts of it. This dessert is not only photogenic, but also able to bring the real prosperity for your tummy since the portion is huge enough. Additionally, for you who prefer the savoury one, they also have savoury crepes menu.

Chocolate Cream Cookies (IDR 26k)

If A&W is the one to serve you affordable waffle, Mr Pancake is the one to serve affordable pancake, both sweet and savoury one. This chocolate cream cookies brings you the simple combination of chocolate ice cream, homemade yoghurt sauce, cheese, and cookies; which are all the toppings you can generally find everywhere. However, it has proven that simplicity might also give high satisfaction for you. The size is fulfilling enough, and most importantly, the price is so pocket-friendly. Moreover, you also have the option to change the pancake into waffle.

 Linda’s Peanut Caramel Butter Roll Pancake (IDR 45k)

As some of my friends who don’t love peanut butter do fall for this pancake, then guess what will this pancake do to the peanut butter lovers? YES! It’s just about to make them FLY! It’s a simple, yet mind-blowing combination of rolled pancake filled in with thick layer of peanut butter spread and peanut chunks, then topped with delicious caramel sauce. Voila! Taste is to DIE FOR! If you prefer to have this with waffle, you do have the option for it. Savoury lover are also very welcome here as they do provide menus for you.

Not only providing the choices of waffles, pancakes, as well as crepe cakes as the base, Pancious also serves its consumers with so many selections for both the sweet and the savoury toppings to be mixed with your choice of base. As it is highly accessible due to its presence in almost all malls, Pancious has become the one whose menus I have tried the most. So far, none of them has made me disappointed. However, the best ones definitely exist. For savoury one, I love Sausage & Salami the most as I love the combination of sausages, pepperoni, smoked beef, salami, and lots of mozzarella put on top of it. While for the sweet one, my favorite is Coco Baileys as I have always loved any desserts or beverages mixed with Baileys. One thing I really admire from Pancious is they continuously invent new flavors to be served for their customers, and for each of their flavors, they are trying to serve each person's preference. You can see it through the special flavors they create such as green tea, baileys, apple crumble, and others.

 Sandwich Waffle Ice Cream with Melted Milk-Chocolate Toblerone (IDR 40k)

This waffle ice cream is definitely different from the others. Instead of being served on a plate, you have it put into an open-top paper box. The waffle is served warm as it is baked right after you make the order. The melted toblerone topping is also just made at the same time. So if you wonder how the taste is, it is surely heaven for me because it perfectly combines the warm and moist giant waffle, the cold ice cream, and the sweet melted toblerone on top of it. Additionally, you have several choices of exceptional flavors for the ice cream, such as Cream Cheese, Peanut Butter, Marie, and others. Unfortunately, I don't think this sandwich waffle ice cream is available at the stall all time. I tried this when Spiky Smooth opened a booth at Jakarta Culinary Passport event at Grand Indonesia.
