Kakolait, Another Paradise for the Chocolate Enthusiast

Being a dessert lover, I don't think it's that easy to find a decent chocolate-specialist cafe in Jakarta. Well, I've found some wonderful chocolate-based desserts, yet mostly they're sold at either restaurant or cafe, all of which are actually not specializing only in chocolate. Perhaps, it's not as simple as calling out Max Brenner or Guylian right away, when I'm asked about chocolate specialist in some other countries.

Hence, the first time I knew that there would be a chocolate-expert cafe established soon in town, I was beyond happy. Especially, I've heard the rumor that it's kind of 'Indonesia's Max B'. Nonetheless, having found out that this new paradise for chocolate enthusiast actually resided in Serpong area, I knew that I had to be a lil' bit more patient, waiting for the time when I could finally pay a visit there.

Earlier last week, I've planned to visit Serpong area on the weekend. Unfortunately, approaching the end of the week, there were issues here and there about the huge riot, making everyone become very anxious, and successfully making me get extremely irritated as most of the plans looked like they're going to be totally ruined. However, despite the frightening Friday night, you might either call me courageous or reckless, seemed like my love for desserts was much bigger than my fear of the chaos. My mind was like 'who cares?', if I'd planned to go, then I'd go. So there I was, at Saturday afternoon, sitting nicely at Kakolait with whom I now called my Serpong friend, @whats_up_jakarta.

Compared to other cafes located at Serpong, Kakolait was actually not that tiny in terms of the space. It was nicely decorated with combination of various brown colors, starting from the light to the dark one, impeccably reflecting the main desserts they offered, CHOCOLATE. The design concept was actually quite simple yet for me able to give that snug feeling to make you want to stay longer. Apparently, it was intendedly created not only for youngsters, but also families as they did provide long tables to accommodate larger number of people.

For a quite terrifying day, I could say the cafe was still quite crowded as guests were still continuously coming in. Though the service was not that speedy and the waiters/waitresses  were apparently still climbing their learning curve, they were good enough in trying to assisting and pleasing the guests.

The selections of menu offered were not that much yet (or probably they intentionally kept it simple), offering only waffle and molten cake as the freshly-made desserts, on top of their ready-to-serve Espresso Brownie. Thinking that waffle would be perhaps too simple and tasted quite general, I opted for their molten lava cake or what's more well-known as Kakolava (IDR 40k). It took quite long before I finally could have mine served on the table, but luckily I had abundant stories to share with my friend so time just flew by.

Coming in faultlessly gooey texture with that extremely tempting mixture of melted vanilla ice cream and warm chocolate center of the cake, the cake tasted quite good in the beginning. However, as I digged more spoons of it, I started to feel full of it as it's too sweet for my palate, which was usually having quite high-tolerance on sweets. Should it be less sweet, I believed it would be an ultimate indulgence for any chocolate holic.

Another mainstream one to order, yet also the one that made me fall in love at the first sight with Kakolait, Hot Dark American Marshmallow (IDR 40k). I was initially having a dilemma if I should go for this or the Ice Chocolate yet I finally ended up preferring to have the hot one. Balancing the quite high price, the drink did come in quite fulfilling size. Thanks to this cup, it came as a perfect curer to my day as the bold dark chocolate taste could neutralize the overly sweet flavor stuck on my taste bud. The texture was awesome, being as thick as how it looked like from the appearance. I was really in love with it so if you said you were a chocolate lover, I could bluntly say that you shouldn't have missed this! It would be simply the one perfectly crafted for you, blending that slightly bitter (in the pleasant way for sure!) chocolate taste with a little hint of sweetness coming from the marshmallow. Absolutely the star of the day!

Not yet satisfied with visiting the venue only once and only trying 2 of their menu, I would absolutely plan my next visit here. For the next one, I would definitely go for their gorgeously looking Ice Chocolate! Would surely keep you guys updated ;)
