Tea and Beyond at Thinking Cup

The curiosity about this place was all started in the afternoon when my friends and I passed by the venue when we were about to go to other places, leaving PIK area after our cafe-hoping session. We recognized that there was a new place, close to another new comer Social Affair, which we also wanted to try. Nevertheless, on that day it was already quite late so we could no more get any natural lighting, making us decide to come back there for these two some time soon. All those stories finally brought me back there at PIK, indeed for visiting both Social Affair and Thinking Cup.

The name of this new cafe was quite ear-catchy for me as it just sounded quite funny (which I also didn't understand why I thought it was). At first, I thought it was a coffee shop till my friend told me that it's actually a tea connoisseur. Despite that fact, my excitement to go there was still burning, just like what I usually had with other new comers.

Mostly decorated in white with tea-maker properties put here and there, I honestly felt that the design was not as fancy as common tea house I had been in prior. This one was generally quite simple and I couldn't get that classic and elegant ambiance typically delivered by the prior comers. Well don't get me wrong, nothing's wrong with the place and despite its simplicity, it was actually a quite nice one. It's just my personal opinion (which of course all of you had the right to disagree with) that coming with the current pricing level for the foods and beverages, I expected something beyond this, the more sumptuous and deluxe one.

But, regardless my slight critics I've highlighted in prior, there's one distinctive point from the venue set-up, the quotes put on the wall, which could come as perfect inspiration as well as perfect photo spots simultaneously.

Stunned Cake (IDR 68k)

Named as stunned, the color and appearance of the cake might be not that stunning as it looked a bit pale, combining mostly gray and black colors. It was quite pricey as well though I had to admit that the size was quite gigantic. Nonetheless, the taste was surely a killing one (in a very positive way for sure!), able to make you stunned with a huge jaw-break. The taste was super rich, delivering distinctive flavor at each layer. Such an amusing combination of sponge cake, creme, chocolate, cookies, and crumbs! I simply couldn't hold myself from kept chewing. Well, who cared about hip-effect now, weekend deserved high calorie and I did owe myself its sugar-high moment!

Silver Needle (IDR 58k)

When you're in tea house, have yourself a cup of tea and that's what exactly I were doing. Instead of satisfying my Sunday morning coffee craving, I went for their tea. Yesss, I surely had to try drinking from the gorgeous glass teapot since they're claiming themselves as the specialist for this. The concept delivered was kind of unique as the preparation was all done at the open-bar so the customer could immediately see the whole making process. I didn't know if you did think the same as me, but my friends and I were actually being kinda mainstream at that time, opting Silver Needle for our initial trial here. If you were into tea or at least ever been to tea connoisseur, you might understand what I meant as Silver Needle was mostly available anywhere and the taste would be likely to suit all likings.

Being the highest grade among the family of white tea, this Fujian-China originated tea was only produced from the top buds of the tea plants. No wonder, the price was relatively high. However, despite that fact; since we were only able to go for refill once, it was quite an expensive drink in my humble opinion especially the place was not as fancy as common tea house. Fortunately, the petite cups delighted my palate well with its sweet aroma and flavor, such a great choice to pick if you fancied not too bold tea taste.

Overall, it was a nice tea time experience in Thinking Cup in spite of the quite high price. If only it could be slightly cheaper or the place could be nicer, I guessed I would come back for the cake.
