Getting Curious with Curious Palette Singapore

It's quite cumbersome to find an early bird coffee shop here in Singapore as most of them just open their doors at around 10am or later. Being able to find the one opening earlier, my friends and I surely had it on our list. Big yeay, it's close to Dhoby Ghaut interchange, which also meant it's near Orchard. Big smile on my face as it implicitly said that we could do window shopping (well, might end up with the real one as well *giggle*).

So the coffee shop I was talking about was Curious Palette. Opening at 9am, when we arrived at the venue just 5 minutes passed the opening time, the venue was already quite crowded, occupied by people having their morning coffee and breakfast. I was quite surprised with the huge size of the coffee shop, able to occupy more than 70 people I thought. However, I got even more amazed with the fact that it's quite packed regardless the spacious venue. Not only having gigantic indoor spot, there's also outdoor one to serve the smokers as well as people bringing their pets.

Besides selling coffee, they did sell the beans and the coffee makers as what you spotted in the picture, displayed along the bar. So I guessed, they looked like coffee specialist so hopefully the coffee would be awesome.

To accompany our coffee, we opted for their brunch menu. Actually they're also the ones we saw on Instagram and made us get tempted. As we had quite many options, we requested for the friendly waitress' suggestion. We then ended up for two of their dishes, yet the waitress got it wrong, making 3 dishes successfully landed on our table and we had no option but to finish them all.

Croque Madamme (SGD 19.5)

Perhaps the appearance could tell you that the bread was quite too thick for typical Croque Madamme. Usually I met similar bread for toast I guessed. The taste was not bad and the corned beef and mozzarella stuffings were actually generously given, yet there's nothing so superior in it for my palate. And if I might say, I loved the moist bread with milky aroma, yet it's surely more suitable for sweet combination than savory one.

Corned Beef Scotch Egg (SGD 18.9)

The owner of the spotlight, the most gorgeously presented one I saw on my timeline. The actual look was indeed appealing, having those shiny yolk at the center of the bread-crumbed corned beef. The scotch eggs weren't really me, yet the side dishes were surely my kind of plate. The combination of couscous and petite cabbage were palatable healthy combination.

Ocean Trout (SGD 18.9)

This was the menu mistakenly included by the waitress into our order as we repeatedly mentioned it when we were still in dilemma on what to opt for. Calling it blessing in disguise, this 'accidentally-ordered' dish turned to be the most favorite of the 3 of us. The salmon slices were surely the creme de la creme, being so fresh that they literally melted in my mouth. They're perfectly seasoned, giving wonderful blend of taste. The perfectly runny yolk from the poached egg and the abundant melted mozzarella from the cheese croquettes added extra happiness into the plate. If I might have a wish for this menu, I would prefer the veggies to come with olive oil or vinegar instead of only plain, to give extra flavor into the whole meal.

Being a coffee specialist, we certainly wouldn't miss Curious Palette's coffee and thus, there were the Cappuccino and the Piccolo beautifully sat on our table. Using Common Man beans, I initially predicted that both would taste quite sour as I had the same bean in the previous day in other coffee shop and it was too sour for my taste bud. Unexpectedly, both cups got me at the first sip right away as the acidity was at the right level and the after taste was clean. If you're confused which one to go for, it's just the matter of preference. If you desired lighter coffee taste, go for the first one, while if you fancied the bolder one, pick the latter.

Cappuccino (SGD 4.9)
Piccolo (SGD 4)
After leaving the place, we just figured out that Curious Palette was actually well-known for its Ricotta Hotcake, which we haven't tried frowned. So let's give it a hopefully next time ;)
